Urban culture with plenty of sound

Santiago de Compostela is hosting one of the most important events in the northern Iberian Peninsula when it comes to the hip hop scene: the Microfest, which this fall will reach its eighth edition. The best-established urban culture festival in Galicia always goes for a varied and heterogeneous program, both in the number of activities carried out and in the attendance of highly successful, well-established artists. All the concerts will take place at the Sala Capitol at 21:00 p.m.

For this edition, held within the framework of the remarkable events of Xacobeo 2010, Microfest and the website Galiciaflow.net have produced the release of the CD Galiciaflow VOL.1, compiling 20 songs with the best and newest of the rap scene in Galicia.

Microfest will set off on November 12, featuring one of the most representative Galician artists of the hip hop scene, Rack Eterno, who is bringing the new songs from his work El Asesinato de la creación . He will be joined by Sevillian Tote King, one of the most respected rappers in Spain, who will present El Lado Oscuro de Gandhi.

On the second day, November 26, the documentary Días de asfalto y tinta will be shown at 16:00 p.m. in Arteria Noroeste –a tour along the past, present and future of hip hop produced by the magazine Hip Hop Life to celebrate its first anniversary. And afterwards a colloquium will be held with Dobleache, David Moreu and El Galgo.

The night will see the performance of the trio from Valencia Cookin Soul, together with a deluxe animator, Mbaka; the rapper from A Coruña El Pablo Ese, who will be presenting A mi madre le gustan mis raps; the band from Santiago de Compostela 504, which will be presenting its LP by the same name; and Shelar & Erin, two of the main references of the hip hop scene of Compostela and Galicia, who will be adding up their talents for this new edition of the Microfest.

The last day, November 27, will start at Arteria Noroeste with a rap lyrics workshop conducted by El Chojín, one of the most widely known and representative rap artists of Spain. This workshop has been conceived to foment such values as respect, self-esteem and non-violence. Participation is free for all owners of a Microfest season ticket after registration at info [at] microfest [dot] net

The artists in charge of bringing the Microfest to a close at the Sala Capitol will be Swan Fyahbwoy, from Madrid, who is true sensation in the reggae/dancehall scene and founder of the association Madrid Dancehall Crew; and Seis Senseis, a group from A Coruña, which will be presenting Don’t stop the rap, a maxi-single made up by three songs, available for free download on the Internet.
